Please consider including the Trust when reviewing your Will. If your estate is worth over the Inheritance Tax Threshold, currently £325,000, when you die Inheritance Tax may be due. Since 6 April 2012, if you leave 10% of your estate to charity the tax due may be paid at a reduced rate of 36% instead of 40% making the cost of giving considerably lower than before.
If you decide to leave a legacy, it is essential that your will is legally drawn up, and correctly witnessed. Unless your affairs are very straightforward, it is best to consult a solicitor rather than try to do it by yourself. If you prepare thoroughly and collect all the relevant information, seeing a solicitor need not be too expensive.
There's nothing to stop you from giving to a charity right away. You can make a cash donation or give them anything you own and it won't be counted as part of your estate when you die. This could cut or even eliminate any Inheritance Tax there is to pay. Any amount you may choose to leave or give will benefit the work of the Trust so do please consider this. We would be very grateful.
