We met in Langcliffe on a cold day and walked along Pike Lane and over the fields to the Hoffmann Kiln site, where we read the information boards. We walked through the kiln to keep warm noting the limestone ‘icicles’ inside, then around the site looking at the several other types of lime kiln, notable for their size. The return was made by dropping down to the now-closed paper mill and into the fields by the river bank. Cold rain began to fall so we walked more quickly towards the Locks bridge then up the lane from the Locks cottages to Manor Farm House in Langcliffe to have mince pies, tea, a warm-up and a convivial chat.
