The Committee staged a new musical event in 2011 at Coniston Hall, the home of our President, Ethne Bannister. It was an important occasion for two reasons; firstly because we saw it as an opportunity to raise funds to support the work of the Trust (especially the Historic Churches Fund) and, secondly, because we saw it as an opportunity to attract new members to join the Trust.

Participants were invited to bring a picnic, rugs, tables, chairs to spread out on the lawn between the house and the lake. A complimentary drink was served on arrival and there was a bar for purchase of drinks.

We were entertained during the evening by two young professional singers, Alexandra Lowe (soprano) and Christian Lunn (tenor) accompanied by Nick Stevenson on the piano. Alexandra had just won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music and her ambition is to become a professional Opera Singer; Christian had won a scholarship to the Guildford School of Acting and Musical Theatre and has his sights trained on the West End! Their programme was varied - from classical (Puccini/ Mozart) to modern (Andrew Lloyd Webber/Leonard Bernstein) - something for everyone!

In addition to the picnic and entertainment we also staged a small exhibition on the work of the Trust, on display in the dining room of the Hall.
