The Methodist Chapel celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1960. According to the Jubilee souvenir programme preaching services were held in private houses in the late 1700s and before the first chapel was built in Wigglesworth people attended at Long Preston. In the 1800s meetings were held particularly in the homes of John Dickenson, Willliam Hargreaves and Rodger Parker. At that time the Love Feast was considered to be one of the important services connected with Methodism. When the first of such services was held at Wigglesworth Row in 1826, no fewer than 300 persons were present.
A chapel was built in 1829 but when it fell into disrepair it was decided to rebuild and a new chapel was opened in 1910. Mrs Mary Birtwistle of Settle was one of the trustees in 1960. One of the most treasured possessions of Mrs Birtwistle was one of the two cups which were used at such Love Feasts in former days at Wigglesworth and she presented the cup to the chapel at the time of the Jubilee. The Loving Cup passed into the custodianship of Mrs Annie Dinsdale and it is now in the possession of Mrs Birtwistle’s grandson Edwin living in Bedale.
The chapel was sold in 1984 to Beryl and Bill Kelly and they renamed the building Berylhome. It was then sold to Mr and Mrs Wilson in 2001.
