The North Craven Historical Research Group

Rita Hudson

At a recent meeting of members of the Group thanks were expressed to the Committee of the North Craven Heritage Trust for awarding the group a Grant of £500 towards the continuation of their work of visiting archives to gain further materials for the public archive. It was also decided to try for a larger Heritage Initiative Fund Grant to give the group some stability over the next three years. At the meeting three members gave presentations showing the work that was being carried out - Mike Slater showed how wills dating back many centuries could be found at the Borthwick and other archives which were very useful to local historians. Phil Hudson showed general slides of different members' interests, and Kit Dodson showed how he was producing an educational CD that could be used in schools, colleges etc. for local history Projects.

Some members of the group took our display to the North Yorkshire Archive Open Day at Northallerton in April, where staff from both North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Archives were very impressed with our computer presentation of historical material gathered so far.

The Archive is now open to the Public to come and view at any time during the day, though it is always best to telephone first, 01729 825773, if you are making a special journey as we do like to get out into the field for research on occasions. Our new Web site is currently being constructed and can be found at www.northcravenhistoricalresearch.co.uk.
