The walks programme continues to be a well-supported activity of the Trust but we do need volunteers to lead walks. The local knowledge of our walk leaders is extremely helpful and is appreciated by those who enjoy the outdoors and the company of other Trust members. John Fox has supervised the programme this past year and has asked for ideas for walks to be put forward to him by anybody. This does not necessarily mean that they would be responsible for leading since others will be available to undertake this role. New volunteers for leading walks are however always needed. This will make John's job easier.
The issues of health and safety have been addressed and we take with us a basic first aid kit and a telephone. Before setting off the leader describes the walk, and notes any difficulties and potential short-cuts home. We are constrained however by the insurance situation - only members may join walks so any of your friends who would like to come with us do have to join the NCHT at the appropriate yearly rate. Membership forms and cards will be available on the day but it is preferable to contact the Membership secretary beforehand if possible.
